UPDATE: The Rock Island School Board and Superintendent released a statement Wednesday afternoon:

“Effective June 3, 2023, Dr. Lawrence will be relieved of his duties as Superintendent of Rock Island-Milan School District 41. Dr. Lawrence has served Rock Island-Milan for nearly four years. This is a mutual agreement between the Superintendent and Board of Education.

The Board thanks Dr. Lawrence for his service and dedication to the students of District 41 and expresses its best wishes to him and his future endeavors. Dr. Lawrence wishes the best to the District 41 community.”

EARLIER UPDATE: The Rock Island-Milan School District board on Tuesday night agreed to accept the superintendent’s resignation.

Dr. Reginald Lawrence has submitted his resignation as superintendent.

EARLIER: The Rock Island-Milan School District is making a surprising move at Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

Section six, part C of the minutes for the meeting refer to “termination of Administration Contract.” Sources tell us the school board will take a vote to end the contract of Dr. Reginald Lawrence.

Dr. Lawrence has been the Superintendent of the Rock Island-Milan School District since June 2019, according to his LinkedIn profile.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Washington Junior High Cafeteria, 3300 18th Avenue in Rock Island.
