James Bond was almost completely different as Henry Cavill was up for the part

James Bond wouldn’t be the same without Daniel Craig, but it was almost very different, as one very famous Hollywood actor recently learned how his ‘failed’ attempt actually helped him go further in the industry.

Superman actor Henry Cavill was beaten to the role by Daniel Craig, who starred in the movies from 2006’s Casino Royale until 2021′s No Time to Die. Cavill is actually tipped to replace Craig as the next James Bond, but he so nearly took the role instead of Craig back in 2006.

The 40-year-old is set to star in the upcoming Hollywood Thriller, Argylle, alongside Dua Lipa, directed by Matthew Vaughn. The director first noticed Henry Cavill when he auditioned for the role as James Bond.

“It was really bizarre because when Henry was auditioning for Bond, I was at Pinewood [Studios] and Daniel [Craig] was as well, right?,” the director said in an interview with Sirius XM.

“At the same time, and I’d go off and meet with Daniel and he’d say what’s going on. He said, ‘There’s this young guy, Henry Cavill, who I think they’re seeing as well,” he recalled.

The two first worked together on 2017’s Stardust, and it’s the Bond audition that put Henry on Vaughn’s radar.

He then made a shocking revelation the Casino Royale director actually ‘preferred’ Cavill’s audition, but producer Barbara Broccoli preferred “Layer Cake,” in which Craig starred in. It was also suggested Cavill may have been ‘too young’ at the time.

However, Cavill stayed tight-lipped on the “project he might be involved in or not.”

Other stars in the running to replace Daniel Craig

It’s the question on all film buffs mind. Of course, we know Cavill is in the ‘predictions’ but who else could we be seeing as 007?

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is said to be at the top of the ‘most likely’ list, he’s best known for playing the title character in the Kick-Ass films.

Tom Hardy is also up there on the predictions, as well as Damson Idris, who has appeared in Black Mirror and Swarm. He was previously dating Lori Harvey, but the couple split at the end of last year to “focus on their own lives.”

Could that be a hint?

We guess we’ll just have to wait and see!
