Monday's National Enquirer weighs in with a story that intimates the married Post and President Clinton have enjoyed a relationship that's closer than your average private citizen/leader of the free world.
The story, fronted by a cover photo of Post and TV producer (and Clinton pal) Linda Bloodworth Thomason hopping on a White House bed in the stately Lincoln bedroom, talks of "private meetings" and "secret get-togethers" between the actress and Clinton, according to quotes excerpted in today's New York Post.
In a statement to the supermarket tabloid, a spokesperson for Post, 47, denies ever being "alone with the president."
"Markie, Bill and Hillary are close friends," the spokesperson says, adding that Michael Ross, Post's husband since 1982, is also a "friend of the president."
Post, best known as public defender Christine Sullivan on NBC's Night Court, met Clinton through Thomason. (Her spokesperson says the actress and the politician go back nine years.) Thomason and husband, Harry--leading Arkansas-born Friends of Bill--produced Post's Night Court follow-up, Hearts Afire (1992-95).
In 1993, Post helped produce a Disney Channel program marking Clinton's first inauguration.
The Enquirer article states that Post and her husband were among the Clintons' guests during the First Couple's first night in the White House. (The bed-hopping pic was said to be snapped during a gleeful, "We made it!" cheer.)
